About the Role

We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter to join our maintenance team at Tronox. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery across the site. This position plays a vital role in ensuring plant reliability and operational efficiency by diagnosing faults, executing planned maintenance activities, and supporting breakdown response.

This role will be based at our Atlas mine site, Hatfield NSW (approximately 2 hours north-east of Mildura), with employees able to utilise the company-chartered bus service to and from Buronga, NSW to the site. The position is offered on a permanent basis, working a 7on/7off roster with accommodation included. 

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Fitter will be accountable to:

  • Install mechanical equipment and machinery, including systems involving hydraulics, pneumatics, numerically controlled components, and electro-mechanical gears.

  • Identify and diagnose complex mechanical faults, particularly those involving interrelated systems or interlocking mechanisms.

  • Perform workshop calculations to determine appropriate sizes, grades, and tolerances of replacement components.

  • Apply practical, timely solutions to restore equipment functionality and minimize downtime.

  • Execute the daily mechanical maintenance plan as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Assist in routine and advanced troubleshooting of mechanical failures across a wide range of equipment and systems.

  • Accurately log all maintenance activities and relevant data in SAP.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining a strong commitment to Tronox values and operational integrity.

  • Contribute to a safe, efficient, and high-performing maintenance culture through proactive communication and teamwork.

  

About you

To be successful in your application you will ideally need to possess:

  • Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter (Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent) Essential

  • Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial, mining, or processing environment

  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills across a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment

  • Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical systems

  • Confident in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and workshop calculations

  • Proficient in using SAP for logging maintenance activities Highly desirable

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and compliance with site procedures and regulations

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused approach

  • Flexibility to respond to unplanned maintenance and support breakdown recovery as needed
