Summary: Own the estimating function in a growing HVAC projects business delivering commercial fitout and refurbishment work up to $3M.
• Genuine ownership of the estimating function inside a growing projects business
• Direct access to leadership without layers of approvals and corporate theatre
• Opportunity to help shape which builders, sectors and opportunities the business actively targets
Some estimating jobs are basically stress with a spreadsheet attached.
Endless revisions.
Builders squeezing margins.
Jobs rushed out the door.
Then everyone acts surprised when delivery turns into damage control halfway through the project.
A growing HVAC and technical services business in Melbourne’s South East is looking for a technically strong Mechanical Estimator to become a key part of its Projects division as the business continues expanding.
The work is varied.
Mostly commercial refurbishment and tenancy HVAC projects ranging from roughly $100k–$3M.
This is not a high-volume new-build estimating environment.
The work requires someone comfortable dealing with live sites, refurbishments, fitouts, fast-moving scopes and the practical realities that come with them.
The leadership team already has relationships, project flow and clear growth plans in place.
What they want now is someone sharp enough to produce accurate estimates, protect margin and understand that winning rubbish work at rubbish margins is not a strategy.
This isn’t a role where you disappear into a giant estimating team pricing one tiny section of a tender.
You’ll run the process properly, from take-offs and submissions through to client interaction and project handovers, while helping tighten the link between what gets sold and what actually gets delivered onsite.
The business is still scaling, which means not every system is perfectly polished yet.
For the right person, that’s part of the appeal, not a drawback.
They want someone who can help build a sharper, more structured estimating function as the projects division continues growing into larger and more complex work.
You’ll probably suit this if you are:
Bluebeam experience is important. Estimate One and SimPRO exposure will help.
Salary package is flexible and includes a vehicle. The business is more interested in finding the right commercial and technical fit than forcing a number on the right person.
If you’re currently pricing work inside a business where speed matters more than accuracy and everyone’s permanently reacting, you’ll probably understand exactly why this role exists.
