    The Mechanical Technician / Groundstaff role is primarily responsible for maintaining plant and equipment that is essential in maintaining outdoor facilities. When the machinery is all humming, this role also steps in to support the Greens Team on general course maintenance. Under the guidance of the Turf Manager, this role ensures the Golf Course, Cricket Oval, Bowling Greens, and surrounding grounds are maintained to a professional standard, enhancing the member and visitor experience while supporting the Club’s operational goals.

    What key responsibilities does this role have?

    • Plan and develop a maintenance schedule for all machinery, vehicles and equipment
    • Reports on plant and machinery faults, replacement programs and likely impact of mechanical works on the course maintenance schedule
    • Keeps the machinery clean, serviced and ready for use by the Greens team
    • Ensures a safe and clean work area for team members and visitors to the Greens sheds
    • Ensures plant and equipment complies with WHS regulations for safe operation by the team and team are trained on the safety features on equipment
    • Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are fit for purpose, operating safely and replaced/repaired as required.
    • As required, will step in to help maintain turf areas including Golf Course, Cricket Oval, and Bowling Greens using appropriate equipment such as hand mowers, power-driven mowers, weed trimmers, and brush cutters.
    • Plant and maintain grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers according to landscape design and seasonal requirements.
    • Apply mulch, remove weeds, and maintain garden beds.
    • Clean grounds, buildings, and equipment, including rubbish removal.
    • Assist in minor building repairs, painting, and general maintenance tasks.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on facilities, buildings, and equipment.
    • Trim hedges, prune trees, and maintain boundary vegetation.
    • Report major issues to the Turf Manager and follow instructions diligently.
    • Support other Club departments when required.
    • Ensure punctuality, regular attendance, and a responsible work ethic.
    • Communicate effectively with members, visitors, and fellow employees.
    • Follow instructions and work safely in varying weather conditions.
    • Promote and adhere to Shoalhaven Ex Services Group Work Health and Safety Policy and procedures.

    Ideal background…

    • Solid knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components used on equipment for outdoor facility maintenance
    • Ability to perform mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks safely and efficiently
    • Assist and advise the Turf Manager on costs for equipment maintenance, faults and replacement schedules
    • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field highly regarded
    • Experience using grounds maintenance tools and machinery such as mowers, brush cutters, and trimmers. Or the willingness to learn on-the-job
    • Some knowledge of turf management and horticultural practices
    • Experience working in outdoor environments across all weather conditions
