Woodham Petroleum Services is a family-owned business that operates a regional network of fuel depots and fuel outlets across NSW and QLD. We own and operate a substantial fleet of fuel tankers and are seeking a qualified heavy vehicle mechanic for a full-time permanent role in our workshop in Townsville, North Queensland.

In this full-time role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of our fleet of heavy vehicles, tankers and trailing equipment, ensuring they remain safe, compliant and in a reliable condition to support our business operations.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks including inspections, diagnostics and repairs to medium and heavy vehicles, including trucks, tankers, and associated equipment
  • Conduct comprehensive inspections and identify potential problems to prevent breakdowns
  • Maintain detailed records of all equipment to promote a proactive preventative maintenance program
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and servicing documentation to maintain compliance with our NHVAS accreditation
  • Collaborate with the operations team to minimise vehicle downtime and ensure an efficient fleet management process
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment

The successful applicant will have:

  • A relevant formal mechanical trade qualification and background with a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role, preferably in a road transport environment
  • Sound knowledge of electrical and air systems associated with road tankers and trailing equipment
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills to identify and resolve issues
  • Ability to service unexpected breakdowns if required
  • Sound knowledge of relevant on road compliance regulations
  • A demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry WHS principles
  • A collaborative approach to integrate with a team of workshop staff, contractors, drivers and depot staff
  • Clear and concise communication abilities with excellent interpersonal skills
  • A safety consciousness that embraces the safety of all personnel, including oneself, in a heavy industrial environment
  • Current Australian Driver’s licence – class HC or MC would be preferred
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and good time management skills
  • Competence in computer-based applications would be an advantage
