About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the mechanical design for one of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a high-profile tender that will shape the future of sustainable water and energy solutions.

You will be responsible for overseeing the development of cutting-edge mechanical systems, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with Australian standards, and integration with multidisciplinary project teams. Your leadership will be instrumental in delivering innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that align with our commitment to excellence and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers in the development of mechanical systems for major infrastructure projects.

  • Oversee all aspects of mechanical design, including system layouts, equipment specifications, and integration with broader project requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with electrical, civil, and structural teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal project outcomes.

  • Drive design innovation, ensuring compliance with industry best practices, Australian standards, and client expectations.

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership throughout the tendering, design, and execution phases.

  • Develop design strategies that optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment on design requirements and project goals.

  • Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance to uphold the highest design standards.

  • Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Stay informed of the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and infrastructure design, incorporating innovative approaches where applicable.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical design for large-scale infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong expertise in mechanical systems, including pumps, pipelines, rotating equipment, and HVAC for industrial applications.

  • Proven experience in leading design teams and delivering major tenders and projects.

  • Deep understanding of Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental considerations in mechanical design.

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility for chartered status is highly desirable.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with a passion for engineering excellence.
