Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.

Tangentyere Constructions delivers Property Management, New Construction work, and Trade Repairs and Maintenance Works to Alice Springs Town Camps and remote communities & outstations.

Carpenters will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.

The work of the Carpenter can include either Building and Construction work under the direction of Construction Supervisors; or repairs and Maintenance including inspection, assessment, and completion of minor repairs under the direction of the Property Management Team Leader.

Responsibilities

  • 1.    Undertake building work under the direction of Construction Supervisors.
  • 2.    Provide a first response for any tenants requiring repairs and maintenance work on their house.
  • 2.1.  Inspect the house to identify and assess required repairs and maintenance.
  • 2.2.  Undertake repairs and maintenance.
  • 2.3.  Report work that requires trade qualified repairs and maintenance to the Team Leader.
  • 3.    Record, document and photograph all requests, work undertaken, and material used.
  • 4.    Observe and maintain Occupational Health and Safety.
  • 5.    Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Qualifications and Selection Criteria

    Required

    1.Demonstrated work experience in the building and construction industry.

    2.Relevant Vocational Educational Training qualifications.

    3.Willingness and capability to work in remote settings.

    4.Good spoken and written communication.

    5.Organisational skills including the ability to plan and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

    6.Ability to work respectfully in an intercultural environment with tenants, co-workers, and subcontractors.

    7.Ability to read, understand and to follow policies, procedures, and plans.

    8.Current NT Drivers Licence, White Card, Ochre Card, and Current Satisfactory Police Check.

    Desired

    1.Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.

    2.IT and Computer skills.

    3.Certificate III in Building and Construction.
