About the job

The Electrical Apprentice will contribute, under general direction to support the electrical team to provide reliable and efficient maintenance support for the Virginia site on a multi-shift basis, including manufacturing, associated equipment and site services.  This is achieved through a combination of preventive and predictive maintenance, identification and implementation of process improvement activities.

All work performed within this role is to be supervised at all times and carried out in Quality Class A environment GMP facility.

This position reports to and supports the Maintenance Team Leader who is ultimately responsible for the efficient, effective and reliable operation of all site-wide equipment in their specific area.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Applying and developing basic electrical skills that assists in the maintenance of the Opella Virginia plant.

  • Achieve minimum competency requirements and standards of relevant off the job training program at Tafe or other registered training organisation

  • Comply with terms & conditions of the training contract.

  • Ensuring planned preventive and predictive maintenance tasks are completed according to the maintenance schedule and production schedule, in accordance with Australian and Industry standards, GMP Code and HSE procedures and practices

  • Contribute to team effectiveness through participation and cooperation

  • Support line operators with machine set up, running adjustments, advice and guidance

  • Involvement in introduction, commissioning and validation of equipment is conducted as required.

  • Assist with design and manufacture of any new process improvements

  • This position will have interactions with HSE, Engineering, external Contractors/Consultants, Production, Quality and Research & Development departments.

  • The ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, evaluate and repair site-wide equipment is critical to the success of this role and the Maintenance Department. 

  • This position requires the incumbent to work on intricate and site-specific equipment and systems, with many being located in or directly affecting GMP areas and environments.

  • The GMP production environment requires attention to the details and accuracy within good documentation practices. 

  • The 24/5 GMP production environment that exists generates the need to work a rotating shift pattern and the working of various shifts depending on business needs and production cycles. 

  • The focus to create and maintain a safety culture that is proactive and striving for zero injuries is of the utmost importance and an expectation for all employees

  • The work performed by the Electrical Apprentice and the documentation of this work directly impacts Manufacturing and has the ability to affect deviations within their area of responsibility, which directly affects product produced at the Virginia site

  • Ensure engineering documentation and maintenance history is current utilising computer databases and paper systems.

Experience: 

  • Some hands-on experience in a trade/electrical capacity an advantage

Skills:

  • Curious problem-solver with a keen interest to grow and develop long-term, appetite for continued learning

  • High level communication skills- written and verbal English language

  • Collaborative team player, proactive and go-getter attitude

Education: 

  • TAFE or relevant qualifications an advantage

  • Prior Internship/Apprenticeship experience a bonus
