Position purpose and primary objectives:

Reporting to the “Maintenance Manager”, the “Toolmaker/Wire Cutter Operator” is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying precision tools, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to support efficient and high-quality production operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring all tooling and equipment remain in optimal working condition to minimize downtime and maintain manufacturing precision.

Duties & Responsibilities

Tooling & Equipment Maintenance

• Modify, repair, and maintain precision tools, jigs, and fixtures to support production.

• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

• Monitor tool wear and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and efficiency.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and carry out repairs on equipment and tools as required.

Production Support

• Ensure all tooling is in optimal condition to support uninterrupted production and meet high-quality standards.

• Troubleshoot tooling issues and provide timely solutions to minimize downtime.

• Assist in setup and calibration of wire-cutting machines and other precision equipment.

Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate inventory of tooling and spare parts.

• Order and replenish tooling components as required to prevent shortages.

• Ensure proper storage and handling of all tools and spare parts.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain detailed records of tool maintenance, repairs, and modifications.

• Document and update work procedures related to tooling and equipment use.

• Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and company policies.

Continuous Improvement & New Product Development

• Collaborate with production team to improve tooling design and efficiency.

• Participate in new product development by providing input on tooling requirements.

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance precision and productivity.

Safety & Quality Assurance

• Adhere to workplace safety guidelines and promote a culture of safety.

• Conduct quality checks on tools and finished products to meet manufacturing standards.

• Report any hazards, defects, or non-conformities to the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Tool Making Trade Qualification

• Previous experience with wire cutting EDM

• Minimum 3 years post-trade experience

• CAD experience

• Experience in operating a CMM measuring machine

Desirable

• Extrusion tooling experience

Personal Attributes

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Effective verbal communication skills

• Ability to assist in small team
