Technical Assistant/Graduate Mechanical Engineering

CMI Electrical Products is a part of the IPD Group of Companies. We are a leading manufacturer and supplier of Electrical Cable and Industrial Products to the electrical industry with significant operations nationally. CMI Electrical Products distributes to Industrial, Commercial, Wholesalers, OEM and Utilities markets.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Engineering Technical Assistant. In this role, you will assist with coordinating the sales and production of Minto Industrial Products and Flameproof engineering products. Additionally, you may support the R&D department for the electrical divisions as needed.

Reporting directly to the Manager for Mining & Operations, this role will be based at our office in Lidcombe, NSW.

About the role

• Conducting research and development for Flameproof Engineering and mining products, including cable and coupler designs. Collaborating on new product development and improvements with industry representatives and suppliers.
• Assisting with design commissioning, creating CAD drawings, developing Bills of Materials (BOMs), and managing jigs, fixtures, and machining advice for production.
• Helping with the costing of products, maintaining documentation, updating specification sheets, and managing calibration registers and work instructions.
• Overseeing special product orders, ensuring timely production, and maintaining strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
• Addressing product non-conformities, raising Non-Conformance Reports, and developing corrective actions while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental policies.
• Assisting with staff training, monitoring project engineering hours, and reporting any issues that may affect quality or safety to the Manager-Mining & Operations.

About you

• Trade certificate in Electrical or Mechanical discipline.
• Basic Electrical knowledge.
• Basic CAD with ability to draw and edit assembly diagrams and electrical line drawings.
• Demonstrated computer skills/qualifications and in particular database and spreadsheet skills.
• Good telephone manner.
• Sales and technical experience with hazardous area products.
