About the role

We have an excellent opportunity for a senior mechanical engineer to join our team.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at CMP Consulting Group, you will play a key role in delivering high quality mechanical engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, while providing technical leadership within the mechanical team.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading mechanical design for water and wastewater projects, including pumping systems, pipework, valves, treatment plant equipment, ventilation systems, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Undertaking and reviewing complex engineering calculations, designs and technical assessments, and providing authoritative technical advice to Clients and project teams.
  • Managing and leading mechanical engineering inputs on projects, including scope definition, programme, quality, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed technical documentation, design reports, specifications, schedules, and drawings to a high professional standard.
  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring and supervision to junior and intermediate mechanical engineers, including design reviews and support for professional development.
  • Contributing to the technical development of the mechanical team, including development of standards, templates, design approaches, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Colloborating with civil, electrical, process, and structural engineers to successfully deliver multi discipline projects.
  • Liaising directly with Clients, Contractors, and key stakeholders, representing CMP in a professional and technically robust manner.
  • Supporting project delivery and business development activities, including input to proposals, fee estimates, and project planning where required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 7–15 years’ experience in mechanical engineering consultancy, with a strong focus on the water and wastewater industry.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical packages or projects, working autonomously while supporting broader project teams.
  • Strong capability in providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • A practical, solutions focused approach to engineering design and problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience dealing directly with Clients and stakeholders.
  • Eligibility for professional registration (e.g. RPEV, RPEQ, CPEng, or equivalent).
  • Based in Melbourne.
