About the role

As part of AGL’s Climate Transition Action Plan we have committed to closing our thermal assets and replacing them with renewable energy and battery storage. We have plans for 5 GW by 2030 and 12 GW by 2035.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will contribute to and lead various mechanical engineering scopes of work being undertaken for new greenfield grid-scale energy projects (from concept to handover) to support Construction and AGL’s vision. This will include defining technical requirements and reviewing key engineering deliverables for studies and projects within the Construction and Energy Hubs portfolios.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE legislation, Australian and International standards while
    meeting the AGL’s policies and standards for HSE Management
  • Assist the contracting process and be responsible for technical aspects relating to the
    mechanical package scope, including evaluation of tenders, assessment and negotiation of
    technical deviations and providing recommendations for award
  • Ensure mechanical inspections are conducted in compliance with the Principal Requirements and other appropriate plans. Ensure that accurate quality documentation is provided
  • Ensure the mechanical design of new greenfield grid scale projects is progressing on schedule so that various interface requirements are met
  • Review supplied materials to ensure they are in compliance with contractual requirements and applicable laws
  • Management and administration of project contractors, OEM’s and consultants’ technical work and deliverables, ensuring legislative requirements and standards are met
  • Perform and participate in risk assessments and risk management activities by identifying,  rating, initiating and ensuring effective controls are put in place and implemented
  • Apply sound Engineering methodologies to help develop solutions and make recommendations

About You:

You will be experienced Mechanical Engineer with heavy rotating equipment and extensive construction experience. You will be used to working on multiple concurrent projects, but importantly your ability to solve problems and build relationship with internal and external stakeholders will set you up for success.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Sound knowledge of the power generation, especially Gas Turbines and Reciprocating Engineers, larger than 10MW. Other renewable energy technology (wind turbines, pumped hydro) will also be required
  • A strong understanding of Australia Mechanical Engineering standards and industrial construction standards
  • An understanding of project management, construction and engineering processes and methodologies
  • Ability to analyse highly complex engineering data and deal with ambiguity and
    uncertainty, to achieve risk optimised decision making
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • The ability to work effectively on multiple concurrent projects
  • Eligible for membership of Engineers Australia and Professional Engineering Certification
