Construction delivers an extensive range of specialist services in the areas of infrastructure, storm water drainage, bridge maintenance, transport network technologies, trades, land remediation, asset intelligence, lighting and facility services.

The Role

Play a pivotal role in leading Council’s traffic control business, including workforce management, service delivery, plant and equipment, contracted services, commercial performance, safety, compliance and customer service. The role supports the delivery of construction, maintenance and emergency response activities across Brisbane by ensuring temporary traffic management services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

In addition to operational leadership, you will provide strategic direction, technical governance and expert advice on temporary traffic management, road occupancy and traffic control operations. This is an opportunity to influence Council’s long-term approach to traffic control and construction delivery, while building strong partnerships across construction, maintenance, emergency management, transport and regulatory stakeholders.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• lead Council’s operational traffic control business, associated workforce, plant and equipment, contracted services and service delivery performance
• develop and implement business strategies that improve safety, efficiency, compliance, commercial performance and customer service outcomes
• provide expert advice on temporary traffic management, traffic control operations, road occupancy requirements and associated standards
• lead Council’s temporary traffic management plans and operations to support construction, maintenance and emergency response activities
• build strong partnerships with construction, maintenance, emergency management, transport and regulatory stakeholders
• drive innovation, digital uplift and continuous improvement across the traffic control service.

To be successful you will have:

• proven experience leading complex operational services, large workforces and high-performing teams in a dynamic service delivery environment
• strong knowledge of traffic control operations, temporary traffic management, road occupancy, safety and compliance requirements
• experience managing budgets, plant and equipment, contracted services, resources and competing operational priorities
• the ability to develop strategic plans, provide technical governance and drive service improvement, innovation and operational excellence
• exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence, advise and build productive partnerships across Council and external regulatory environments.
