Senior HSE Manager - FIFO 15 Days On, 13 Days Off - Major Iron Ore Project

The Role

Our client is an established, global engineering company and are looking for a Senior HSE Manager to support one of their major iron ore projects. This position will be on a FIFO 15/13 roster, working through 10.5 hour days.

 

Responsibilities:

Project Compliance & Safety Systems
  • Ensure compliance with all WA Safety Legislation obligations and maintain a robust safe system of work for the project.

  • Regularly audit and inspect contractor compliance with project safety systems.

  • Develop and implement required Project health & safety documentation.

  • Manage the contractor alignment & mobilisation process (‘Good to Go’).

Leadership & Culture
  • Lead the Brockman Syncline 1 Project management team in achieving health and safety performance goals.

  • Coordinate communication and reinforcement of health and safety expectations to the workforce.

  • Promote, champion, and coach ICARE, SMM, and site culture development.

  • Lead, champion, and coach CRM implementation and other safety initiatives.

Risk Management & Hazard Identification
  • Ensure a robust hazard identification system is in place, and reported hazards are controlled.

  • Manage the Project HSE risk process and facilitate monthly risk reviews.

  • Oversee and manage Site EMO and Security services, ensuring emergency training compliance.

  • Ensure adherence to the EMO MoU.

HSMP & Incident Management
  • Provide visible leadership and adequate resources for the implementation of Project HSMP, CEMP, Safety Maturity Model, ICARE, and CRM initiatives.

  • Oversee incident reporting and investigations, ensuring compliance with specified timelines.

  • Coordinate and monitor the injury management process for the Project.

Stakeholder Engagement & Contractor Management
  • Work with Project management to coordinate HS Forums and the Fatality Prevention Program (FPP).

  • Advise Project management on improvements for direct reports and contractor safety.

  • Verify contractors perform work in alignment with established safety requirements.

Performance Monitoring & Compliance
  • Review leading and lagging safety performance indicators and develop action plans for negative trends.

  • Guide and support contractors and supervisors in implementing the Project WHS Plan.

  • Ensure contractors adhere to statutory compliance and safety deliverables.

Training & Development
  • Lead and implement project training programs, including Supervisor and CRM training.

  • Support and coordinate the Site HSE Committee, HSE Leadership meetings, and required SBRT.

  • Conduct Post-Mobilisation and Periodic Contractor Assessments for compliance with the Project WHS Plan and HS procedures.

Safety Interactions & Incident Reporting
  • Actively lead all required safety interactions, area inspections, CRM verifications, and audits.

  • Record and submit associated documentation for all inspections and verifications.

  • Ensure near-miss and hazard identification reporting by all Site personnel.

  • Participate in and support formal investigations of incidents, including injury, near misses, plant/equipment damage, or environmental harm.

  • Ensure timely corrective actions as per the Managing Incident Reports Process Flow Chart.

     

HSE Communication & Continuous Improvement
  • Facilitate the dissemination of HSE information to all relevant personnel.

  • Support the resolution of disputes related to HSE matters.

  • Assist EPCM and Contractors in achieving required Project KPIs.

  • Ensure identified HS deficiencies from audits, inspections, incidents, and work practices are corrected promptly to prevent recurrence.

 

What you will have:

  • Possess a recognized HS qualification with a strong understanding of relevant HS legislation and standards.

  • Extensive experience as an HS Manager in a FIFO role within the Construction or Mining sector.

  • Proven track record as an HS Manager in the construction industry with relevant years of experience.

  • Previous experience working on large mining operator sites and familiarity with their safety processes

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence behaviours, especially among contracting partners.

  • Comprehensive technical, practical, and leadership experience in HS, including strategic planning and a history of driving industry-leading HS performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, apply general management practices, and effectively lead a team.

  • Committed to delivering high-quality services and ensuring customer needs are understood and met.

  • Actively engaged in promoting and achieving the project’s HS vision and requirements.

  • Willingness to take on additional duties as required and lead the development of a positive safety culture.

  • Proactive and goal-oriented with strong attention to detail.

  • Effectively manages changes in tasks and work environments while supporting others in adapting to change.

  • Skilled in identifying issues, problems, and opportunities, making timely decisions, and developing innovative solutions while seeking assistance when necessary.

  • Able to work efficiently in multidisciplinary teams, sharing and transferring knowledge within the team.
