Role

As a Senior CNC Machinist, your core responsibility will be to set, operate, and program CNC machining centres and conventional machine tools to produce precision components. You’ll be working on modern machines equipped with digital interfaces, not overly manual systems, so strong technical aptitude and computer literacy is essential.

This is a hands-on, rewarding role where your experience with new technology and digital programming will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and program CNC machines (e.g. OKUMA auto lathes with M-tools, double spindle, multi-axis and dividing heads)
• Experience with Fanuc control and IGF would be advantageous
• Utilise CAM software and CNC interfaces to create, adjust, and optimise machining programs for accuracy and efficiency.
• Operate machining tools to drill, bore, mill, grind and thread components to fine tolerances
• Monitor machine performance and proactively resolve issues to minimise downtime and maintain production flow.
• Interpret engineering drawings and translate them into production-ready CNC programs
• Adjust and optimise programs for improved efficiency and product quality
• Use and maintain computerised job tracking systems and production records
• Identify and report any equipment issues, malfunctions, or maintenance needs
• Collaborate with engineering teams for prototyping and quoting

Knowledge & Experience:

• Certificate III/IV in Mechanical Engineering (Metal Machinist trade)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a machining environment, preferably with modern CNC equipment
• Strong computer skills and experience with digital programming tools and interfaces
• Experience working with small to medium componentry is preferred
• Year 10 education minimum

• Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Comfortable with modern machine programming and software
• Adaptability and willingness to learn new technology
• Able to work independently or as part of a collaborative team
• Prototyping and quoting experience desirable
