Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
  • Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
  • Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

In line with the above, ACCIONA is now looking for a Mechanical Quality Engineer to join the Western Harbour Tunnel Project. As the Mechanical Quality Engineer, you will be providing support to establish quality and completion systems and controls to successfully deliver the project. The Mechanical Quality Engineer will ensure that all quality and completion requirements are satisfied when transitioning finished works to the Client and Stakeholders.

Specific Tasks Include

  • Help maintain the Completions database to meet quality management requirements and upload field documents not included in the online reporting process.
  • Assist the site team with the development Work Packs, ITPs and Inspection andITRs.
  • Ensure planned Inspection and Testing are carried out to verify that the work processes are in accordance with the contract documents.
  • Ensure that specific plans, procedures, methods, and forms required by the Specifications are effectively developed and implemented by coordinating the relevant elements of the engineering team.
  • Address nonconforming items through the project's Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) process, and communicate any lessons learned to the Project Team.
  • Use the required documented plans, procedures, methods, and forms to implement the Quality Management System.
  • Use the Completions database [Hexagon] to generate reports confirming that Verification Checklists and test data are uploaded and reviewed by site engineers and supervisors.
  • Conduct work practice audits and monitor project activities to ensure subcontractors and the project team meet all quality obligations.
  • Assist in the preparation of and review quality and completion documentation and records.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary Qualification in engineering or related discipline, ideally Mechanical.
  • A good knowledge of Australian standards.
  • Advanced Microsoft Suite skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Prior experience in a similar role on a large infrastructure project.
  • ability to assist in providing training to engineers for quality systems.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving mindset.
