SUMMARY

James Construction Queensland are looking to expand their construction team and are extending an Expression of Interest for an experienced Carpenters to join our team.

James Construction Queensland specialise in remote building and construction work, predominantly in Cape York and regional Queensland for a range of clients including but not limited to government and mines. We specialise in delivering small commercial, residential and maintenance works.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Duties:

  • Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
  • Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
  • Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade (or depth) specifications.
  • Levels earth and road pavements to specified grades and tolerances.
  • Mixes concrete and places, levels and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
  • Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
  • Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hoses to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
  • Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices or joints.
  • Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring.
  • Demolishes buildings, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.
  • Excavates for, lays, joins and beds pipework (sewer, stormwater, water and conduits)
  • Backfills pipework (trenches) to specification.
  • Completes quality check forms.
  • Inspects, checks and verifies material deliveries to site.
  • Operates compaction equipment.
  • Uses hand held tools such as shovels, rakes, crowbars, brooms, cold chisels etc.
  • Installs and maintains safety, traffic and environmental protection devices, equipment and controls
  • Takes delivery of materials and signs delivery dockets following checking for compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of 3-years’ experience as an Carpenter in a similar role.
  • Must be able to travel and work remotely for extended periods.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Certificate III (Trade) in Construction as a preferable qualification.
    • Driver's License
    • Hold a Construction Induction Card (White Card)
    • Working at Heights.
    • EWP, Forklift, Truck, Excavator and Skid-steers license.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear and use feet to control pedals. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25kg. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee needs to have the ability to operate controls while watching out ahead.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee maybe exposed to hot and humid conditions.
