About the role

This newly created role will lead a small team to deliver safe, highquality surface preparation and protective coating application across structural steel, tanks, pipelines and process equipment within a Major Hazard Facility. You will plan work, allocate resources, assure quality, and be handson when required to meet shutdown and routine maintenance objectives.



Description

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of industrial painters and labourers, including daily prestarts, toolbox talks and coaching.
  • Own planning, scheduling and resourcing of painting scopes in collaboration with operational stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures including Permit to Work and workingatheights requirements in a Major Hazard Facility.
  • Execute and verify QA/inspection activities (DFT, surface profile, dew point, WFT, cure) and maintain QA records.
  • Coordinate shutdown painting activities, contractor interfaces and access/logistics (scaffolding, EWP, materials).
  • Manage coating materials, consumables and equipment fleet; raise requisitions and control inventory.
  • Drive continuous improvement, incident reporting/learning and housekeeping standards.
  • Contribute to budget estimates, forecasts and reporting of progress against KPIs.


Skills And Experiences

About you

  • Trade qualified (e.g., Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application) or equivalent experience.
  • Industrial painting experience with experience leading a crew in heavy industry (refining, mining, petrochemical).
  • Sound knowledge of coating systems and surface preparation standards (e.g., AS 1627, AS/NZS 2312) and associated QA.
  • Strong safety leadership and communication skills; confident with PTW and risk assessment facilitation.
  • Certifications desirable: Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, First Aid; NACE/ACA/ICorr Coating Inspector Level 1 (desirable).
  • Comfortable using CMMS (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft 365 for planning and reporting.
