Position Purpose

The Painter Foreperson 3 is responsible for managing staff, materials, and equipment on assigned projects to ensure safe, profitable, and customer-focused delivery. This role ensures that project budgets are met or exceeded, with strong emphasis on hours, materials, equipment hire, and subcontractor costs.

The Foreperson promotes a positive team culture, maintains high standards of safety and quality, and provides leadership to painters and apprentices. They are accountable for projects >1500 hours, with minimal supervision (not more than two visits per week from a Supervisor unless requested by the client).

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications (required):

  • Trade Certificate in Painting
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket
  • Working at Heights training
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

 

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in a similar role or environment
  • Ability to supervise and manage >8 operatives
  • Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills
  • Reasonable level of literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to work unsupervised and take accountability for outcomes

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Plan, monitor, and control projects >1500 hours
  • Ensure equipment is secured and sites remain tidy and safe
  • Conduct assessments and reassessments up to 2000 hours

People Management

  • Lead, develop, tradespeople and apprentices
  • Conduct toolbox talks and ensures adherence to company standards
  • Encourage training and discipline where necessary in line with policy

Customer Service

  • Maintain professional communication with clients
  • Address client concerns promptly and escalate where required
  • Ensure project completion sign-off is obtained

Administration

  • Maintain van stock and complete monthly stock-takes
  • Ensure project job files and documentation are accurate and up to date
  • Submit timesheets and planning sheets on time

Safety, Environment & Quality

  • Promote Programmed’s Zero Harm culture
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements and MSDS use
  • Maintain first aid resources and provide first aid where required
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities

Key Selection Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  1. Proven leadership experience in painting or a similar trade environment.
  2. Ability to manage and motivate teams of 5 or more operatives.
  3. Strong planning, organisational, and project management skills.
  4. Commitment to workplace safety and Zero Harm principles.
  5. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  6. Competence in administration, including timesheets, stock control, and reporting.
  7. Relevant trade qualifications and licences.
  8. Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
