PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Fabricator / Welder / Sheet Metal, Tradesperson is responsible for cutting, welding, shaping, and assembling metal components as part of container fabrication and fit-out.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations & Production

• Perform welding and metal fabrication tasks in line with specifications.

• Fabricate components using sheet metal forming techniques (e.g., bending, cutting, rolling).

• Select appropriate welding methods (MIG, TIG, Arc) for different sheet metals.

• Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to complete fabrication work.

• Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.

• Work collaboratively with other trades to meet production deadlines.

• Follow proper material handling and preparation procedures.

• Maintain accurate records of work completed and report any production issues.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

• Strong understanding of metal fabrication, welding, and general manufacturing processes.

• Must be proficient in the processes of Mig, Tig, and Stick Welding.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

• Competence in using fabrication tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.

• Knowledge of WHS regulations related to fabrication and welding.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience in working with stainless steel, aluminium, and mild steel.

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.

• Ability to identify and suggest process improvements and efficiency measures.

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, production management systems).

• Experience in operating CNC machinery or robotic welding systems.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

• Minimum 2 years of experience in fabrication, welding, or a related trade.

• Experience in working with sheet metal components in a manufacturing or workshop setting.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

• Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a team setting.

• Background in implementing and managing quality control systems.
