The Opportunity

Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Technician in our Hot Strip Mill (HSM) Team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Working on our HSM Coil Box equipment, you will ensure that equipment is maintained to the highest standards to meet our objectives for safety, quality, and reliability. You will apply your mechanical fitting skills and experience to complete both complex and routine maintenance tasks, while also being directly involved with the planning of maintenance in collaboration with our maintenance coordinators.  

What Will You Do?

In a role that impacts the safety of our people as well as the quality and reliability of our equipment and products, you will:

  • isolate equipment and perform maintenance   
  • inspect quality critical equipment and fault find
  • plan and organise for repairs via our maintenance management system
  • contribute to the team with out of hours support as required
  • seek ways to continuously improve our maintenance strategies

More About You

As a mechanical maintenance tradesperson, you’ll enjoy taking ownership for your work and contributing to the larger team. You will bring:

  • a Mechanical Trade or tertiary qualifications (Mechanical Engineering – Fitting/Machining) 
  • experience working in a similar industry within Mechanical Maintenance, with a focus on defect elimination and equipment reliability
  • proven exposure to maintenance management systems and basic computer skills or willingness to learn
  • an enthusiasm to learn new skills and develop yourself in the role
