Mechanical Fitter - RTS OPS HCMT

Downer Rail & Transit Systems business has a wide portfolio of projects currently in delivery nationally.  RTS leverages the in-house capabilities within Downer to offer integrated solutions covering rollingstock, infrastructure, rail systems, operations and maintenance, as well as system integration.  We are currently seeking Mechanical Fitters to join our team based in Pakenham, Victoria. These positions are 12 month full-time fixed- term contract.

About the roles:

Our Mechanical Fitters form a key component of the Downer Rail and Transit Reworks team and will be primarily responsible for the modifications of new and refurbished HCMT build Rollingstock.

Specific desired skills and experience:

• Trade qualified – Certificate lll in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitter)


• Rail Industry worker card (RIW) highly desirable


• Experience in Rail highly desirable


• Ability to work unsupervised and be a hands-on team player


• Proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks


• Flexible and resourceful


• Experience in LEAN or KANBAN would be highly desirable


• Ability to interpret technical drawings 


• Ability to drill/tap/cut stainless steel using powered and handheld tools.


• Remove and replace rail components


• Ability to caulk


• Use and check torque wrenches


• Forklift/Dogman/Crane/Working at heights/EWP ticket desirable


• Strong communication skills
