Our Summer Vacation Program in Engineering gives you the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, learn from industry professionals, and see what life is really like as an engineer in a global organisation.

We’re looking for ambitious, curious and driven engineering students to join us for an 8–12 week paid placement over the university summer break. Whether you’re in your penultimate year, final year, or somewhere in between (just not your first year), this is your chance to turn theory into practice.

Responsibilities

You’ll be placed in one of our high-performing teams, working on real engineering challenges and contributing to projects that make a difference to our clients, our communities, and the world. From day one you’ll be treated like a valued team member, collaborating, problem-solving and seeing how your degree applies in practice.

Wood teams deliver solutions across three business units - Consulting, Projects and Operations.

Consulting 

Wood's “Consulting” business encompasses professionals with industry-leading expertise in areas including decarbonisation, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, renewables advisory, asset optimisation, and digital solutions. A multi-sector business unit, we are focused on providing consulting solutions during the planning, analysis, operation and optimisation of assets, facilities, and infrastructure. 

Roles includes: 

  • Integrity Management Vacation Student 
  • Rotating Equipment Vacation Student 
  • Static Equipment & Structures Vacation Student 

Projects 

Wood's "Projects" Minerals & Metals business designs the future of mining, providing global expertise, delivered locally.  Leading the way in mineral processing and metallurgical refining, across all commodities and geographies of the world - Australia, Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia.  From study through start-up, we have been advancing the world’s major mining projects across Lithium, Nickel / Cobalt, Copper, Gold, Rare Earths, Iron Ore, Platinum Group Metals (PGMs).

Roles includes: 

  • Mechanical/Piping Vacation Student

Operations 

Wood’s “Operations” business delivers brownfields engineering, procurement, construction, optimisation, and technical services to the Oil & Gas industry and enjoys long-term partnerships with some of the region’s most prominent producers located in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Southeast Asia. We partner with our clients with their unique challenges requiring bespoke engineering solutions on live, operational assets—where safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption are critical.

Roles includes: 

  • Mechanical/Piping Vacation Student

 

You can expect to: 

  • Work alongside experienced engineers on live projects 
  • Gain hands-on technical skills and exposure to cutting-edge tools 
  • Learn about different areas of the business and career paths available 
  • Develop your professional network with mentors, peers, and industry contacts 
  • Present your work at the end of the program, showcasing what you’ve achieved 


Qualifications

We’re looking for students who demonstrate: 

  • A genuine interest in building a career in consulting engineering 
  • Curiosity, creativity and a willingness to learn 
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills 
  • Initiative and the confidence to take on challenges 

Qualifications: 

  • Currently studying towards your mechanical or mechatronics engineering degree at an Australian university (undergraduate or postgraduate) 
  • Completed at least your first year of study
