HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (2) plants, being Overhauls and Gearbox repairs.
HBT subsidiaries and partner offices are strategically located in 15 countries including Australia, United States, China, Germany, India, Russia.
Mechanical Design Engineer – Position Purpose
Provide design and engineering services for the modification and manufacturing of components used in the overhaul process as well as new parts and equipment. It also includes assessment and reporting on failed components and risk management of components in life cycle service.
Key Responsibilities:
• Comply with current health, safety, environment and quality management systems as well as relevant legislation and client standards and requirements
• Ensure work is conducted in compliance with the Safety and Health Management Plan, the Environmental Management Plan, and the Quality Management System
• Report any hazards or incidents and near misses involving yourself or others.
• Adherence to policies, procedures and processes for design, drafting, design and engineering
• Inspect and measure machinery and components
• Produce technical drafts and designs to assist in streamlining the fabrication process and enhance quality outcomes
• Seek opportunities to produce designs that lead to labour efficiencies during the overhaul and improved performance of components
• Participate and on occasion facilitate in risk assessments
• Produce engineering reports and calculations along with finite element analysis
• Liaise with clients to clarify and verify specific requirements
• Liaise with workforce, key suppliers and sub-contractors regarding design requirements and manufacturing process
• Assist with developing drafts of new ideas and products
• Liaise with project coordinators/managers and customers to seek understanding of drafting, design and engineering requirements
• Assist with strategic engineering improvements to new and existing equipment
• Input into tendering process to accurately estimate
• Update of Job Register/master schedule for activities
Qualifications:
• Degree/Tertiary qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Three years post graduate heavy mechanical engineering experience, preferably within the mining industry.
• High level computer aptitude including CAD 2D drawing / 3D modelling / FEA / Engineering Calculations.
• Understanding of underground coal mining systems and operations with particular emphasis on longwall systems.
Previous Knowledge & Experience:
• A strong focus on safety.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial hydraulic systems.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work with other cultures.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully work autonomously to achieve business objectives.
• A positive attitude with a can-do mantra.
• Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to analyse data, identify trends and patterns in order to make informed decisions/recommendations.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
• Knowledge in the application of Risk Assessment, Safety compliance and Quality Assurance.
