Job Description

We are seeking a skilled General Maintenance Handyman to join the CW business. The purpose of this role is to undertake assigned planned maintenance works and asset lifecycle replacement project works across our PPP accounts ranging from Prisons, Royal Melbourne Women’s Hospital and numerous Schools spread out across the West, Northern and Southeastern Suburbs.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Perform changeover/replacement works based on our client’s asset lifecycle program schedules at multiple facilities across Melbourne.

  • Urgent, routine & ad-hoc maintenance, repairs, inspections on client’s premises and equipment as directed by the company.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.

  • Measure, cut, and shape wood, plywood, and other materials.

  • Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.

  • Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, doors, and hardware.

  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.

  • Minor patch and painting requirements within facilities

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with building codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.

  • Collaborate with other construction professionals and trades to complete projects efficiently

  • Working autonomously or in a team environment for large or small project works.

  • Undertake and record PRA, Job Safety Analysis prior to commencement of tasks.

  • Liaise closely with key stakeholders and C&W staff to ensure they are aware of any disruption to services by any works undertaken.

  • Ensure effective Key Performance Indicators are managed effectively including response times, safety, compliance, and financial performance of all job numbers assigned to you.

  • 100% of all work reports submitted within 1 business day from completion.

About You

You will be a self-motivated individual that can work in a team environment and autonomously with an ability to maintain tools and equipment (including safety equipment), plant items and hired plant items. Your role also may require helping other trades within the team. Flexible working hours as some sites may require afternoon or night works to be completed depending on the required task.

You will also have an excellent eye for detail to ensure that technical procedures and inspection test plans are performed safely and in accordance with Quality Assurance requirements.

You Will Also Have

  • Relevant Trade Qualification / experience – Minimum of 5 years building services maintenance experience within schools / hospitals and prisons – Highly desirable.

  • Proficient in but not limited to – Basic plumbing, basic carpentry, hanging doors and fitting off hardware and locks, plastering, painting, minor grounds maintenance works, gutter cleaning and pressure washing.

  • Construction White Card.

  • EWP Licence.

  • High Risk Licence – Boom above 11mt – Highly desirable.

  • Working at heights trained - Highly desirable.

  • Australian Police Clearance Check.

  • Working with children’s check.

  • Valid Manual Driver’s Licence.

  • OH&S, Risk Management, Environmental Management or Quality Assurance systems.

  • Own hand tools fit for purpose; specialised tools provided by company.

  • Ability to work comfortable within a Maximum-Security Correctional Facility.

  • General estimating and job scope experience desirable.
