The Role

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Fitter to join our Maintenance team at Strathmerton- VIC.

The Site is Located on the Murray Valley Highway, a little over 200 KMs north of Melbourne, nestled on the Murray River and surrounded by irrigated dairy farms and orchards, this picturesque town of Strathmerton is the home to one of our large Bega Cheese plants.

Reporting to the Reliability Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing mechanical maintenance support for site operations. This includes handling breakdowns, maintenance, and improvement requirements, and would be ideal for someone with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure the safety, quality, and productivity of the plant.

It’s a 12-month fixed-term position. The incumbent is expected to work a rotational shift pattern of four days on and four days off and should be flexible enough to adjust accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quick troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment and systems for emergency repairs, as well as corrective and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.

  • Proactively identify and resolve potential delays caused by mechanical maintenance issues to improve workforce productivity and prevent future problems.

  • Collaborate effectively with electrical /automation trades on shift to develop and implement sustainable solutions to production issues.

  • Constantly seek to improve processes and actively participate in various projects to drive operational excellence.

  • Adhere to engineering and safety standards while performing tasks and take necessary measures to develop and implement safe systems at work, ensuring a safe working environment for all.

About you 

  • Cert 111 mechanical certification with similar experience in a FMCG /manufacturing environment

  • Sound knowledge of process improvement and problem-solving techniques

  • Ability to communicate and willing to work as part of a team

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills

  • A safety-first mindset
