We’re looking for a Lead Mechanical Designer (NPI) to join our Resources and Materials Engineering group.

Due to a steady pipeline of exciting and innovative projects, GHD’s Resource Engineering has a great opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Designer (NPI) to assist in growing our drafting team. In this role you will be responsible for leading a team in the production of detailed 3D models and design drawings on various Australian based resources projects.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Multi-discipline projects predominantly supporting the WA mining industry.
  • Managing and distributing tasks to a team of designers and drafters.
  • Oversee preparation of 3D models and 2D design drawings.
  • Co-ordinating design and 3D model reviews.
  • Implementing QA checks on design documentation.
  • Collaborating with engineers on various technical tasks.
  • Collaborating with project management team to ensure timely delivery of design documentation.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (e.g. Diploma, Adv. Diploma or similar).
  • Design experience in the mining industry in WA with excellent knowledge of various client specific drafting and document standards.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, including delegation of workload and supervision of less experienced team members.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to communicate with other technical team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a strong focus on the production of quality outputs.
  • Proficiency using Bentley MicroStation.
  • Understanding of CAD software interoperability is advantageous.
  • Experience in a mechanical / piping 3D modelling software is advantageous
  • Proficiency using Navisworks for 3D model federation and clash detection.
  • Knowledge of common data environments such as 12D Synergy, ProjectWise and ACC is advantageous. 
  • Understanding of ISO 19650 workflows is advantageous.
  • Experience with detailed design of mining NPI infrastructure such as MEM, Fixed plant, ANFO storage and production facilities and all associated services.
