About the role

The role of the Horticultural labourer is to work in a team delivering landscape maintenance, bushfire hazard risk mitigation and conservation and land management projects in various natural environments across NSW. The position will work in Muru Mittigar’s North Coast Landscape Team under direction of our Team Leader based in Coffs Harbour and the role will require working in remote areas, travel and working away from home.

The position requires a good fitness level and suitability to undertake various heavy work requirements within the role such as brush cutting woody weeds, bending, lifting, standing and working in areas of thick bushland.

Horticultural works will include but not limited to:

  • Brush cutting,
  • Tree planting,
  • Hedging
  • Gardening
  • Mowing
  • Weed removal and control,
  • Herbicide application,
  • Rubbish removal,
  • Seed Collection (when required),
  • Use of small plant and equipment,
  • Watering (when required),
  • Mulching (when required),

The role can be challenging and repetitive but is extremely rewarding in providing ongoing environmental work.

Skills and experience

The following attributes are essential.

  • An interest in the Natural Environment,
  • At least 2 years relevant experience,
  • General construction induction card (white card),
  • AQF3 Chemical Application Certificate (or willingness to obtain),
  • Working with children’s check (or willingness to obtain),
  • Class C Driver’s License and own transport,
  • A willingness and ability to listen and follow instructions,
  • Applicant would need to be physically fit as heavy lifting is involved,
  • A willingness to undertake a medical assessment,
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently,
