An opportunity is available for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team based at our facility in Bassendean in a permanent full time contract.

Support Vehicles Australia are leaders in the design and manufacturing of bespoke heavy equipment, primarily supplying the mining industry.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will join our engineering team who are responsible for the design and development of SVA products. Your role includes, but is not limited to

  1. Provides technical guidance to draftspersons.
  2. Produce design drawings including required additional information i.e. welding standards, paint standards, tolerances etc, following drawing processes and control procedures.
  3. Ensure engineering to compliance with Australian Standards, ISO and legislation.
  4. Completing finite element analysis (FEA) on structures.
  5. Generate drawings and calculations of designs.
  6. Undertaking testing of equipment under development and document and report findings.
  7. Perform simple root cause investigation of failed components and generate technical reports.
  8. Produces CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks + PDM
  9. Develops Bills of Materials and Job Packages.
  10. Checking mechanical designs and detail drawings
  11. Research and Development projects as required.
  12. Responding to internal engineering requests (Engineering Job Requests – EJRs)

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have recently completed a Mechanical Engineering degree and show a desire to learn about mining equipment, metal fabrication and manufacturing process, hydraulic systems and electrical and electronic systems. In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following skills and knowledge.

Technical Knowledge and people skills:

  • Technical Qualifications – Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Work experience within a similar industry (desirable)
  • Proven proficiency with 3D modelling applications (preferably SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
  • Manufacturing experience on heavy fabrication, welding specifications, assembly instructions and general arrangements details (an advantage)
  • Willingness and interested to expand knowledge base about design of mining equipment and fabrication methods
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to work with colleagues, suppliers and other personnel on a daily basis.
  • Good organisation, multitasking and time management skills that delivers effective planning and house keeping standards.
  • Passion for engineering and analytical mindset
  • Self motivated
  • Strong commitment to health and safety
  • Computer experience using standard MS Office suite of programs

Renumeration will be considered with regards to level of skill and experience of the successful candidate.
