The role:
Be part
of delivering and maintaining the essential services that support our
community. Council is seeking a motivated and reliable labourer to join our
Water & Sewer team in Merriwa. Working alongside a skilled and supportive
crew, you'll help maintain, repair and upgrade the Shire's water and sewer
infrastructure while developing your skills in a hands-on outdoor environment.
The role
involves a variety of hands-on labouring duties, including but not limited to:
- Construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer mains, services and associated infrastructure.
- Assisting with the operation and maintenance of water and sewer pump stations and treatment plants.
- Water and sewer sampling, testing and routine maintenance activities.
- Excavation, trenching, backfilling and site restoration works.
- Operation of plant, tools and equipment.
- Responding to water and sewer faults, leaks and maintenance requests.
- Traffic control, worksite setup and adherence to safe work practices.
We welcome motivated individuals,
including recent school leavers with some labouring experience, who are willing
to learn and build a career in the Water & Sewer industry. Successful
applicants will have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Local
Government Operational Works or related field.
What’s on offer:
- A salary range from $1096.80 - $1228.40 per week (based on relevant skills and experience) + 12% superannuation + allowances
- A true 38 hour working week, Monday – Friday working week with the opportunity for overtime if desired.
- Fortnightly Rostered Day Off (working a 9-day fortnight)

What
we need from you:
- A class C driver’s
licence
- A positive attitude and
strong work ethic
- Willingness to work
outdoors in a practical hands-on role

Previous experience working in the water and sewer industry, construction, or a
similar labouring environment will be highly regarded.
- A current White Card or
willingness to obtain
- A current MR licence
and traffic control tickets are desirable, as is experience operating light
plant and machinery.
