Fleet Mechanic Supervisor

About the Role

PSD Energy is seeking a hands-on Fleet Mechanic Supervisor to lead and support the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of our site plant, fleet, and equipment.

This is a project-based role working on a 3:1 roster, suited to an experienced diesel or heavy vehicle mechanic who is comfortable working away on site while remaining based in Adelaide. The successful applicant must be based in Adelaide, or willing to relocate, with project work requiring travel to site as needed (current site is Horsham, Victoria).

You will be responsible for supervising a small team, currently expected to be 2–3 people, while also remaining actively involved “on the tools”. You will play a key role in delivering preventative and corrective maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring our equipment remains available, compliant, and operating safely across site environments.

For the right person, there is also a genuine opportunity to progress into a management role within 12–18 months, subject to performance, suitability, and business needs. This future management position would most likely be based at our Head Office in Pooraka, South Australia.

Working closely with the Fleet & Logistics Manager, site operations, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams, you will help minimise downtime and support the successful delivery of PSD Energy’s projects.

Key Responsibilities

As the Fleet Mechanic Supervisor, you will:

• Perform and supervise maintenance on plant, fleet vehicles, and site equipment
• Supervise and support a small team of approximately 2–3 people
• Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise reliability and availability
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs to minimise operational downtime
• Provide hands-on technical support across maintenance, servicing, testing, and fault finding
• Coordinate and oversee site technicians and maintenance contractors
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and to required standards
• Assist with planning and scheduling maintenance activities
• Respond to breakdowns and operational issues in a timely manner
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and asset documentation
• Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety initiatives
• Ensure all work is completed in line with WHS requirements, manufacturer specifications, and site standards
• Support continuous improvement across fleet, plant, and equipment maintenance activities

About You

You are a practical, safety-focused mechanic with strong technical capability and the confidence to lead others in a site-based maintenance environment. You enjoy being hands-on, take pride in keeping equipment running safely and reliably, and are comfortable balancing technical work with supervision and coordination responsibilities.

You will also be someone who is looking for a long-term opportunity, with the ambition and capability to potentially step into a broader management role in the future.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Trade qualification in Diesel or Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Certificate III or equivalent
• Current driver’s license
• White Card, Construction Induction
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience maintaining diesel-powered plant, fleet, or heavy equipment
• Hands-on experience in industrial, construction, mining, energy, or similar environments
• Strong diesel engine maintenance, repair, diagnostic, and fault-finding skills
• Experience maintaining mobile plant, fleet vehicles, and associated equipment
• Ability to supervise and coordinate technicians and contractors
• Sound understanding of preventative and corrective maintenance practices
• Ability to prioritise work, manage competing demands, and respond to breakdowns
• Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and safe work practices
• Clear communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work a 3:1 roster
• Based in Adelaide

Desirable

• Experience in a supervisory or leading hand role
• Interest and capability to progress into a management role within 12–18 months
• High Risk Work Licences, such as Forklift or EWP
• Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems, CMMS
• Understanding of Permit-to-Work and LOTO systems
• Hydraulic and mechanical systems maintenance experience
• Basic electrical fault-finding capability
