Right now, the company is experiencing exciting growth across the country, creating a new opportunity for Senior Technicians to join the Woomera Test Range Support Services (WTRSS) program. The Woomera Test Range, located in South Australia, is the world’s largest overland test environment, comparable to the size of England, and is one of Australia’s most critical national security assets.

Raytheon Australia’s integrated range solution provides the Australian Defence Force with one of the most advanced test, experiment, and training environments in the world. As one of the teams technical workforce, you will contribute to the success of the WTRSS Program through providing specialty maintenance, deployment and operating functions on a variety of different leading-edge equipment.

The Field Technicians are responsible for conducting planned and corrective maintenance, technical investigations, and support configuration change activities of communication and mission systems to ensure the continued provision of services to the customer. As a Field Technician – Diesel Mechanic you will also be required to support deployment of Mission System Equipment in support of trial activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring work is carried out to a consistently high standard.
  • Provision of specialist maintenance services to Test Range instrument systems equipment. This includes light grade and heavy grade maintenance as defined by the equipment maintenance processes.
  • Deployment and operation of Instrumentation Trailers across the Woomera Test Range in support of defence trials.
  • Producing maintenance reports, meeting key performance indicators for technical compliance and contributing to system health indicators for production and program management.
  • Provision of configuration management support to selected mission systems.
  • Provision of support activities for breakdown spares, repairable items, and support and test equipment.
  • Providing technical support in the conduct of engineering and maintenance services and activities for the customer.
  • The role requires regular travel both within Australia and internationally, including approximately 16-20 weeks of instrumented testing per year at Woomera Test Range with typical deployments lasting between 1 to 3 weeks.
  • Working with Diesel Generators, Heavy to Light Trucks and Light Vehicles (LVs) with the ability to further training with specialised Instruments.
  • Perform diagnostic testing to accurately identify issues

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Requires Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant post-qualification experience required.
  • A demonstrated understanding of commercial vehicle engine and drive train systems
  • A demonstrated understanding of diesel power generation.
  • An understanding of auto electrical systems is highly desirable.
  • Diagnose and fault find finding skills 
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security clearance as needed. Eligibility can be found at http://www.defence.gov.au/agsva
