You are a motivated and passionate individual looking to start or develop your career in the culinary industry. Eager to learn and refine your cooking skills, you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working as part of a team to create exceptional food. Your qualities include:

  • A genuine passion for cooking and a keen desire to learn and grow within the culinary field.
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen setting.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with chefs, kitchen staff, and other departments.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work across a rotating 7-day roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Physical stamina to handle the demands of the kitchen, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy items.

 WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, room service, functions, and buffets, adhering to established menu standards.
  • Learn and apply various cooking techniques under the guidance of experienced chefs.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment, ensuring full compliance with food safety and WHS regulations.
  • Prepare mise en place as required, ensuring strict adherence to stock rotation procedures to minimise waste.
  • Participate in daily kitchen operations, including food storage, stock control, and maintaining equipment in good working order.
  • Support the kitchen team during busy periods, helping to ensure timely delivery of high-quality food.
  • Report any maintenance, safety, or equipment issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Engage in regular training and development activities to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to cost control efforts, including energy conservation, proper material storage, and efficient equipment use.
  • Ensure a high standard of food handling and presentation, meeting all relevant legislative and organisational regulations.
