Your role at St John of God Murdoch

As part of the Engineering team, you will maintain and repair buildings, engineering assets and services, including Transformers, Switchgear, GPOs, Lighting, Public address, Data and Phone cabling etc. in a safe and efficient manner. Being part of this team means that you will be responsible for maintaining the operational status of the hospital and ensuring availability services with minimum down time.

The Position

  • Preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance (Planned preventative inspection, repair, maintenance and fault finding) of Electrical system (HV, LV Power distribution, Lighting, Earthing, communication, Emergency call systems) so that the hospital quality standards are maintained. Undertake reactive repairs to all types of Electrical and Electronic equipment to ensure that systems are restored to service with minimum interruption.

  • Act as Nominee for the site and fulfil such responsibilities of on-site nominee as stipulated by Energy Safety WA.

  • Perform new installation works (Electrical, communication) and maintain test and completion records as per statutory requirements and update drawings and documents

  • Work closely with and technically report to the Maintenance Engineer in execution of day-to-day engineering activities.

  • 1st line maintenance and repair of Control systems, Emergency call systems, UPS, switchboards, panels and Bed controllers

  • Undertake reactive repairs to all types of Electrical equipment to ensure that systems are restored to service with minimum interruption.

  • Utilise BMS systems to ensure that the systems are operating correctly and at optimum efficiency.

  • Implementation of minor projects, oversight planning of major electrical installation work generally, and modification work to improve or preserve the performance of equipment and systems.

  • Liaise with and coordinate subcontractor activities in the area of electrical building services.

  • Assist and prepare for annual audit inspection of electrical systems and plant. Maintain PPM Records.

  • Accountable for uninterrupted operation and meeting departing KPIs specific to ownership area

  • Carry out daily / weekly plant room checks including BMS monitoring as covered in maintenance strategy.

  • Make recommendations for improvement of maintenance practices for reduced down time and cost optimisation.

  • On call support including phone support to remote locations managed by Engineering team at Murdoch

  • Attend regular performance review additional to annual performance reviews.

  • Provide inputs in the maintenance of adequate stock levels for the efficient operation of Electrical plant and services.

  • Support as required with general maintenance assisting other trades in the engineering team as required / directed and perform all other reasonable tasks as directed by Manager/Supervisor in skill and ability.

  • Attend team meetings

  • Complete job history and details in computerised maintenance management system.

  • Perform housekeeping of the work area, workshop and post job clean up.

  • Reporting on job progress to maintenance engineer / administrator and highlight hold ups on a timely manner

You will have the ability to effectively communicate with the other caregivers, managers, and patients to understand their requests and/or problems that they experience with the services or facilities of the Hospital.

You will hold suitable commercial building maintenance experience covering planned and reactive works on all building plant and services with demonstrated complex problem-solving technique's fault-finding mechanical building services and plant.

With demonstrated safe working practices you will hold skills and competencies to perform phone / communication and data cabling, be self-driven, dynamic and a result-oriented tradesperson who can demonstrate continuous self-improvement.   

To succeed you will possess an Electrician’s License issued by Energy Safety WA and experience in Electrical fitting works with respect to industry or commercial buildings and completed required training to be the site nominee with a good positive 'can do' attitude, as you will be expected to work alongside other onsite trades.

Availability to work reasonable additional hours, share callbacks to attend to breakdowns or preventative maintenance after hours and willing to be part of on call roster will be required.
