Diesel Mechanic – Agricultural Machinery

Location: Hay, NSW
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: From $75,000 per annum, negotiable based on skills and experience

Hours: 40 hours per week

Start Date: Immediate start available

About the Business

Our client is a well-established, family-owned and operated agricultural business based in a regional New South Wales town, growing a variety of vegetables for markets across Australia. The business has been producing vegetables for fresh market for over 60 years and prides itself on the quality of its produce and is renowned for consistency and excellence.

The business runs a broad range of agricultural equipment, tractors, implements, diesel bore systems and other plant and equipment.

The team is made of both family members and a culturally diverse team of skilled workers.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a fleet of agricultural machinery and equipment used across the farms.

The role requires someone reliable, self-motivated, and capable of managing day-to-day mechanical tasks with a high level of autonomy, while working within the priorities of the broader farm operation.

You will work as part of a culturally diverse team within a family-owned business and be trusted to operate independently while contributing to the smooth running of the wider operation.

With full use of the workshop, the role also offers the opportunity to take on external work (at the discretion of Management) where appropriate, provided this does not take precedence over the needs of the farm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair tractors, implements, farm machinery, plant, and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime
  • Maintain and repair diesel engines and related components
  • Assist with maintenance of bore pumps, water systems, and related farm infrastructure
  • Complete general workshop duties and maintain accurate records of work completed
  • Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend practical repair solutions
  • Support day-to-day farm operations by keeping machinery safe, reliable, and operational

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Agricultural Mechanic, or equivalent
  • Experience working with agricultural machinery, tractors, implements, or similar equipment
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks without constant supervision
  • Current driver's licence
  • A practical, reliable, and safety-conscious approach to work
  • Willingness to work in a remote/regional area
  • Ability to work respectfully within a culturally diverse team

Desirable but Not Essential

  • Light welding experience
  • Previous experience working on a farm or in a rural mechanical environment
  • Experience with both modern and older agricultural machinery
