Our team operates a fleet of plant and equipment critical to project delivery, and we are seeking a skilled and proactive Diesel Mechanic to help maintain and manage our fleet.
Position Summary
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the servicing, maintenance, and repair of a broad range of plant and equipment including skid steers, piling rigs, telehandlers, forklifts, trucks, and various light machinery. Based in Barham, NSW, the role involves both workshop and field-based responsibilities, including attending breakdowns on active construction sites throughout NSW and VIC. This role will also incorporate elements of plant management, such as service scheduling, fleet reporting, and parts procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and servicing on diesel-powered machinery and vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults
  • Respond to on-site equipment breakdowns and conduct field repairs when necessary
Plant Management
  • Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules
  • Oversee pre-start inspections and ensure plant availability for projects
  • Manage spare parts inventory and order parts as needed
  • Coordinate with site teams to plan equipment servicing and minimise project disruption
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure all mechanical work is performed in accordance with company safety procedures and industry regulations
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized workshop and service vehicle
  • Assist with machinery compliance checks, registrations, and inspections
Skills & Experience
Required:
  • Trade qualified Diesel Mechanic (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent)
  • Proven experience working on construction or earthmoving equipment
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Current manual driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel and work on remote solar farm sites as required
Preferred:
  • HR or HC truck licence
  • Forklift and EWP tickets
  • Experience in plant/fleet management systems
  • Basic computer literacy (for scheduling, reporting, and ordering parts)
