Diesel Fitter - Council Fleet Workshop - Join a team that keeps our city moving!

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Diesel Fitter to maintain and repair a diverse range of Council fleet assets. If you’re an experienced heavy vehicle mechanic or diesel fitter who thrives on variety from excavators and forklifts to water trucks and ride‑on mowers, this role offers the perfect mix of challenge and stability.
 
As a key member of our Fleet Services team, you will be responsible for the repair, servicing and maintenance of Council’s trucks, heavy and light plant, and other mobile assets. Our workshop has successfully welcomed candidates from backgrounds such as mechanical workshops and bus companies, so if you’re an adaptable all‑rounder, we want to hear from you!

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Perform repair and maintenance on a wide range of Council fleet assets including trucks, heavy plant, light plant and equipment, in line with Asset Management requirements, WH&S obligations, environmental standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist with repair tasks that may involve metal fabrication, ensuring compliance with legislative and customer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within the workshop team, supporting team objectives and delivering excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Work positively and collaboratively with your team by communicating openly and following Council’s Code of Conduct, safety standards, environmental procedures, and equal employment opportunity guidelines.

Skills and experience:

 

  • Experience in heavy vehicle maintenance and diesel fitting, gained through work as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and/or Diesel Fitter.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to achieving workshop and service outcomes.
  • Practical knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements related to the repair and servicing of mobile plant.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Eligibility:

 

  • You'll hold a HR class driver's licence (or have the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • You'll have a trade qualification as a Heavy vehicle mechanic and/or Engineering Mechanical Tradesperson / Diesel Fitter.
