Carpentry

The Carpenter/Shopfitter is responsible for assembling, modifying, and installing interior and exterior components within container builds. This role works closely with the Fit-Out Supervisor and other team members to complete fit-out tasks efficiently and to a high standard.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations & Production

• Carry out carpentry and shopfitting tasks such as cutting, shaping, and installing materials.

• Interpret technical drawings to complete fit-outs according to specifications.

• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

• Work collaboratively with other trades to meet production timelines.

• Adhere to workplace safety practices and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures and guidelines.

• Participate in safety checks, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and encourage safe work practices.

• Report hazards, incidents, and near misses to maintain a safe working environment.

Teamwork & Collaboration

• Work effectively with supervisors, tradespeople, and team members to achieve production goals.

• Communicate openly and contribute to problem-solving within the team.

• Support a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

• Assist in training and mentoring less experienced team members.

Quality Control & Continuous Improvement

• Assist in identifying and implementing improvement opportunities.

• Conduct quality checks on fit-out work and report any defects.

• Support process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

• Maintain accurate records of work completed and report issues to supervisors.

• Follow established Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality system procedures.

Equipment & Facilities

• Assist in maintaining and servicing tools and machinery within the Fit-Out Shed.

• Report any equipment issues and assist in coordinating repairs as required.

• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

• Strong understanding of carpentry and shopfitting techniques.

• Ability to interpret drawings and measurements accurately.

• Competence in using carpentry tools and machinery.

• Understanding of workplace safety requirements.

Desirable:

• Experience with modular assembly techniques.

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.

• Ability to identify and suggest process improvements and efficiency measures.

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, production management systems).

• Experience with modular construction methods.

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in carpentry, shopfitting, or a related trade.

• Experience working in a production or workshop environment.

Desirable:

• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

• Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a team setting.

• Background in implementing and managing quality control systems.
