The Role – Carpenter
The Carpenter plays a key role in the production and assembly of modular units, focusing on the high-quality fabrication, installation, and finishing of structural and interior components. Based across our Coolum Beach and Crestmead facilities, this hands-on role involves interpreting technical drawings, selecting and preparing materials, operating tools and machinery, and ensuring all work complies with Australian building codes and Saltair’s quality and safety standards. From framework construction to detailed interior fit-outs, you’ll contribute to the complete lifecycle of our modular builds helping deliver projects that showcase craftsmanship, precision, and durability.
Opportunity
Perform a full range of carpentry and modular construction tasks across both factory and site environments. This includes the fabrication, assembly, and installation of structural and interior components for modular buildings—ensuring all work meets Saltair’s quality, safety, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install prefabricated modular sections in line with technical drawings and design specifications.
- Assist with craning, placement, and final installation of modular units on site.
- Fabricate and install wood and steel framing components, structural frameworks, flooring systems, wall panels, and roof assemblies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian building standards.
- Install internal walls, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, doors, windows, trims, fascia, and external finishes such as cladding and eaves linings.
- Select, prepare, and requisition materials including timber, fixings, and hardware; in accordance with project requirements.
- Join and secure components using nails, screws, bolts, adhesives, and other appropriate fixings.
- Conduct quality checks to maintain workmanship and durability, applying sealants, adhesives, and waterproofing materials as required.
- Carry out repairs, alterations, or maintenance on existing modules to ensure ongoing compliance and structural integrity.
- Coordinate with production, site, and design teams to meet project milestones and resolve technical issues promptly.
- Travel to various project sites across Southeast Queensland for installation and completion works (travel allowances apply).
- Promote and maintain safe work practices in accordance with WHS regulations and company procedures.
Technical Carpentry Skills
- Measure, cut, and shape timber, plastic, and composite materials with precision.
- Operate hand and power tools (e.g. saws, drills, planers) safely and effectively.
- Use advanced joining techniques, including nailing, screwing, bolting, and adhesive bonding, to ensure structural strength and finish quality.
- Perform fine carpentry tasks including fitting doors, windows, and trims.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and modular construction plans.
- Inspect and verify the quality, accuracy, and compliance of completed frameworks and installations against plans and standards.
Qualification & experience
- Diploma level qualification + 1 year minimum full time work experience.
- Alternatively, 3 years full time work experience may be considered in lieu of the above.
