THE CEMETERIES & CREMATORIUM POSITION:
Assist in the development and maintenance of Memorial Park, landscapes, and gardens within the AlburyCity Cemeteries and Crematorium (including Glenmorus Memorial Gardens and Crematorium). This role will involve daily exposure to funerals, grief, and bereavement, with cremations and burials being central to the operations. Candidates for this position must demonstrate emotional maturity in dealing with death and end-of-life situations and be comfortable working in this professional environment.
THE PARKS & GARDENS POSITION:
Assist the Streetscapes and Gardens Team in the development and maintenance of parks, landscapes and gardens.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction, assist in the following:
- Assist in the maintenance of the cemeteries and crematorium grounds or Albury's parks, reserves and landscapes.
- Assist in the construction of landscapes in the cemetery and crematorium grounds or Albury City Area.
- Provide advice to the public and visitors in a polite and effective manner.
- Use all plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner.
- Ensure all routine maintenance to plant and equipment used is carried out.
- Use relevant skills to assist other areas within the Community & Place cluster where requested.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
- Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
- Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE CEMETERIES & CREMATORIUM
- Assist in the maintenance and establishment of coffin burial preparation and cremation memorialisation sites within the cemeteries and crematorium grounds.
- Assist under guidance with the cremation process and using related equipment.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Based on a 38 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity’s RDO guidelines. These times may vary due to operational requirements and will be determined by the supervisor.
- This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 38 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
- This position requires enrolment and study towards a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens or equivalent as part of an AlburyCity Apprenticeship. Enrolment will be organised by the Our People Team. The study component of the course will be primarily completed outside standard working hours of the position.
- This position is a formal apprenticeship and is regulated by the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act 2001. Applicants with equivalent industry qualifications are ineligible to apply. For further information, please contact the Human Resources Team on 02 6023 8700.
- This position is for a temporary period of up to 4 years.
- In line with the provisions of the Local Government (State) Award, this position will receive the Level 1, Adverse Working Conditions Allowance.

- This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day – depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position

ALBURYCITY APPRENTICE CRITERIA:
To be considered eligible for this position:
- An applicant must not have 50% or more of the identified qualification or a similar or a higher industry qualification completed.
- The recruitment of an AlburyCity Apprentice is based on the assumption of no/limited industry skills or knowledge and is not based on age.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Minimum completion of Year 10 or equivalent
- Learner Licence, Provisional Licence or Class C (standard) Driver’s Licence (compulsory to maintain)
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- A demonstrated interest in parks and gardens and horticulture
- Basic knowledge in the use of horticultural tools and equipment
- Understanding of safe work practices
- Fundamental literacy skills in receiving and executing instructions
