Position Overview

Hazell Bros is currently welcoming Apprentice Fitter & Machinist applications for our 2026 apprenticeship intake based in our Hobart workshop.  

Our apprenticeships run over 4 years, combining formal TAFE study with workshop and field work, all while you are supported by experienced and passionate mentors to earn a nationally recognised trade qualification.  

About the role:

  • Assisting experienced Fitters and Machinists in the maintenance, repair, and assembly of machinery and equipment.
  • Collaborating with Fitters and Machinists to troubleshoot mechanical issues. 
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Operating lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other precision tools under supervision.
  • Performing basic machining operations such as drilling, tapping, threading, and cutting materials.
  • Collaborating with team members to achieve project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and maintain a clean working environment. 

To be considered for the apprenticeship you must have: 

  • Completed a minimum of year 10 with sound results in English, Maths and Science or Technology which will set you up for success at TAFE.
  • Be committed to completing the 4-year apprenticeship including attending TAFE.
  • A commitment to our culture of Safety 1st Always Works.
  • Have positive attitude, and be a reliable team player.
  • Submitted a resume detailing your previous training and experience.
  • Submitted a cover letter detailing why you want an apprenticeship, and
  • A current Driver's Licence or being close to obtaining one.
