Primary Objective

An A-grade Electrician for Omega Chemicals is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and controls used in our chemical plant. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work in an industrial environment. This position will ensure all electrical systems are functioning efficiently, meet regulatory standards, and contribute to the plant's overall productivity. This is a critical role in supporting our manufacturing processes and maintaining the highest operational safety and reliability standards.

Responsibilities:

Electrical Installation & Maintenance:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment, systems, and components, including control panels, motors, and wiring systems used in the chemical manufacturing process.
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of electrical systems to identify potential issues and ensure they meet operational requirements and compliance standards.

Equipment Reliability:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and recommend modifications or upgrades to electrical systems to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and ensure all systems meet operational safety and performance criteria.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to Omega Chemicalsโ€™ safety protocols, particularly in hazardous environments, ensuring all electrical work complies with relevant industry standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000: Electrical Installations).
  • Ensure that lockout/tagout procedures are followed during maintenance and repairs.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with Australian standards and codes, as well as Omega Chemicalsโ€™ internal safety and environmental policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical inspections, maintenance, and repairs, ensuring compliance with local and national regulations.

Collaboration & Problem-Solving:

  • Work closely with production teams, engineers, and other trades to minimise disruption to plant operations while addressing electrical issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems, providing prompt solutions to ensure production continuity.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, prioritising work based on safety and production needs, and ensuring timely resolution.

  • Equipment reliability.
  • Safety compliance.

  • Problem-solving electrical issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Current A-Grade Electrical License in accordance with state requirements.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred (but not essential).
  • High Voltage Switching Certificate (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Minimum 3 โ€“ 5 years of experience as an A-Grade Electrician in an industrial or manufacturing setting; experience in chemical plants or hazardous environments is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical systems, motor controls, and automated machinery.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical installation, maintenance, and repair in an industrial environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to chemicals, heat, and noise.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, working in confined space and lifting.
  • The ability to work both indoor and outdoor environments within the chemical manufacturing plant.
