The Opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, the Student Engineer joins the Engineering & Maintenance team at Crown Melbourne on a structured 12-month industry-based learning placement. It's a genuinely broad placement — you'll get hands-on exposure across mechanical engineering, robotics and mechatronics, building services, automation and controls, sustainability, data analytics, essential services compliance, contractor coordination and project delivery. Working alongside experienced engineering and maintenance professionals, you'll investigate problems, analyse operating data, document findings and support improvement initiatives across one of Australia's most complex integrated resort environments, all while contributing to the safe, reliable, compliant and energy-efficient operation of our plant, equipment and infrastructure.

What You'll Do

• Support planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities across HVAC, refrigeration, fire and life-safety systems, lifts and escalators, mechanical plant and associated infrastructure.
• Assist with engineering investigations, asset performance reviews and fault resolution — analysing operating data, identifying root cause and documenting findings.
• Contribute to Building Automation System (BAS), controls, automation, robotics and mechatronics improvement work, including sensors and automated fault detection.
• Coordinate fire testing, defect recording and essential services compliance actions, tracking items through to close-out.
• Support sustainability, energy-efficiency and data analytics initiatives that improve how our assets perform.
• Assist with contractor meetings, work orders, service reports and action tracking, and support capital and minor works projects from scoping through to commissioning — maintaining accurate engineering records, registers, drawings and reports throughout.

What You'll Bring

• Current enrolment in a tertiary engineering degree (mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, electrical or building services) undertaking an industry-based learning placement.
• Sound analytical capability — comfortable interrogating operating data, spotting trends and translating findings into practical recommendations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage technical teams, contractors and operational stakeholders.
• Solid organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly around records, registers, drawings and project documentation.
• Working knowledge of Excel and an interest in engineering systems and platforms (exposure to a CMMS such as Maximo is advantageous, not essential).
• A safety-first mindset, genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn by applying engineering principles in a live, complex operating environment.
