Alfabs Group is looking for an SMP Manager who wants more than another construction management job.

We’re growing our Structural, Mechanical & Piping (SMP) Projects and Services capability — and we’re looking for the person who can take it to the next level.

As SMP Manager, you’ll take ownership of the safe, profitable and sustainable growth of Alfabs’ SMP Projects and Services portfolio.

You won’t be sitting on the sidelines administering projects someone else has won.

You’ll be in the market, with the clients and alongside the delivery teams — identifying opportunities, winning work, building capability and making sure we deliver what we promised.

You’ll lead the SMP operation across superintendents, project teams, controllers, administration and trades, while working closely with estimating, engineering, commercial and senior leadership.

What you’ll own

• You’ll have genuine accountability for the performance and growth of the SMP business, including:
• Building strong relationships with clients and actively securing new SMP projects and services work
• Driving the growth of our site-based construction, brownfield and maintenance services
• Leading and developing our SMP Superintendents, Project Teams and trade workforce
• Taking ownership of the commercial performance and profitability of the SMP portfolio
• Working with our Estimating Team to assess opportunities, sharpen tenders and turn opportunities into executable work
• Balancing labour, resources and forward workload across multiple projects and clients
• Maintaining strong project governance across safety, cost, schedule, quality, risk and margin
• Identifying issues early and making decisions before they become expensive problems
• Building the systems, operating rhythm and capability required to support continued growth
• Creating a culture where people take ownership, perform and deliver for our customers
• Safety isn’t a paragraph buried at the bottom of the position description. It is fundamental to how we operate.
• You’ll champion that standard across every SMP project, site and team you lead.

Who we’re looking for

This role needs someone who understands both sides of the equation:

You can win work — and you know how to deliver it.

You’ll likely bring:

• 10+ years’ management experience across construction, engineering, SMP or major projects
• Experience as a Construction Manager, Site Manager, SMP Manager or similar senior delivery leader
• Exposure to Tier 1 / Tier 2 construction and engineering environments
• A strong understanding of structural, mechanical and piping construction
• Demonstrated experience leading large teams and high-value projects
• Strong construction estimating capability, particularly across project and brownfield/maintenance environments
• Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of project margins, forecasting and cost control
• Experience developing project governance and managing a portfolio of work
• The confidence to negotiate, manage conflict and have difficult conversations when required
• The ability to build credible relationships with customers, site teams and senior stakeholders
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive industry experience
• A current driver’s licence
