About the Role
Opal Specialty Packaging is seeking a skilled and proactive Electrician to join our newly formed site maintenance team at Orchard Hills. This is a unique opportunity to be the sole site Electrician, offering a high level of autonomy while working alongside a dedicated team of Fitters, all reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager.
In this critical role, you will ensure our specialty manufacturing facility operates reliably with optimized machine performance. You will be responsible for the electrical repair, modification, design, and troubleshooting of sophisticated packaging machinery—including cardboard printing, cutting, folding, glueing, erecting, palletising, strapping, and wrapping equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Maintenance & Repair: Maintain, install, and rectify electrical systems across all plant equipment to ensure optimum performance and minimal downtime.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and analyse electrical maintenance issues, working collaboratively with Managers and Operators to resolve complex problems.
- System Optimisation: Review plant operations to enhance electrical system performance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all plant and equipment meet Australian Standards, Quality, and HACCP requirements while maintaining a personal commitment to ZERO Harm.
- Leadership & Guidance: Provide trade guidance to other team members and coordinate/supervise contract work on-site.
- Infrastructure Management: Maintain expert knowledge of site electrical services, including switchboards, compressors, and integrated machinery.
What You’ll Bring
- Qualified Trade: Valid Electrical License and Electrical Trades Certification.
- Technical Expertise: PLC Certification is required; experience with Robotics and Industrial Electronics is highly desirable.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex automated systems.
- Collaborative Mindset: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary maintenance and operations team.
- Digital Literacy: Proficient computer skills to manage maintenance logs and automation software.
- Initiative: A self-starter who thrives in an autonomous role and can work independently to improve plant reliability.
