Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Beaver Process Equipment
Full-time
On-site
Salisbury, Queensland, Australia
The Opportunity
Join our team as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

This is a new role created due to company growth. You will be part of the small team driving our product engineering program. Our goal is to build a world-leading product stack in our specialist market supported by best-in-class engineering capability.

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark on a fast-growing company.

The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will part of the small team driving our product engineering program. We manufacture premium technical products for the mining industry in a discrete manufacturing system that is 100% build-to-order. Every product we make is customised via either a ‘configure-to-order’ (CTO) or ‘engineer-to-order’ (ETO) process. We are building out our Design Engineering team to help expand our world-leading product range and develop a best-in-class internal engineering capability to support our rapid growth.

Key responsibilities will include:
·         Application engineering
·         Product design (CTO/ETO)
·         Pre-production engineering
·         Design for manufacture
·         Review & approve cost estimates
·         Review & approve drawings
·         Job quality requirements
·         Engineering standards & systems

This is a new role coming at a critical stage in our company’s growth. You will help drive the transformation of our product design & engineering systems to allow us to scale from current $60m production from a single plant to over $250m from multiple plants in 3-5 years’ time. We are committed to building a best-in-class internal engineering capability with strong investment in people and systems.

This role will report to our Design Engineering Manager (new role to be hired) and will be based at our Salisbury (Brisbane) plant, with paid relocation if required. We are aiming to hire high-potential talent who will perform exceptionally and progress to take on more responsibility in the business.

About You
We are looking for a high-performing Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

You will be looking for the opportunity to be part of a high-performing Design Engineering team in a successful growing manufacturing business. You will be passionate about designing and making things. You will love solving engineering problems and designing great products – using your smarts and ingenuity to solve problems (not dollars). You will have a strong focus on design-for-manufacture (DfM) and like working closely with the manufacturing team.

The type of character we’re looking for is someone who wants to deliver high quality work that is accurate and on time. You will be highly committed, hard-working and value being part of a professional team. You will believe in the power of technology and harnessing it to do things faster-cheaper-better. You will be a strong ‘first principles thinker’ able to understand and explain ‘why’ things work a particular way rather than just follow an engineering standard.

Experience required includes:
·         Engineering degree (mechanical or related) with strong academic results.
·         Mechanical product design experience (appropriate for role level).
·         Piping fabrication engineering experience (ASME B31.3, AS4041, ASME IX, AS3992).
·         Ideally – experience with piping system design (incl stress analysis & supports).
·         Ideally – experience in manufacturing business with built-to-order product (ie, understands ‘configure-to-order’ and ‘engineer-to-order’ workflows).

Why Join Us?
It is an exciting time to join our team as we accelerate our growth to build a real Australian success story. We are building a business that specialises in high-performance slurry transfer equipment for the mining industry. Our goal is to build a world-class company that dominates this specialist market globally.

Key reasons to join us include:
·         Interesting work – lots of challenging and interesting problems to solve.
·         High-quality team – work with smart, motivated people.
·         Commitment – strong commitment from owner to invest and build a best-in-class engineering capability.
