Description

Our Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) business provides a range of end to end, innovative transport solutions including:  



  • Rolling Stock Design, manufacture and maintenance  

  • Rolling Stock system engineering and integration  

  • Through Life Support engineering and maintenance services  


The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) will assist with preparation and review of dispositions, engineering reports, calculations, comparative analysis, production BOM and spares definitions, root cause investigation and FRACAS for maintenance failures, reliability and safety reviews of maintenance practices. They may be involved in preparing or reviewing design layouts, production drawings, and cost estimates in support of the above and various capacity improvement projects as well as ongoing engagement with production and technical staff for the completion of supporting works.  


·  Lead Design: Spearhead the design and development of processes, solutions and mechanical systems and components, ensuring practicality functionality and efficiency aligned to existing performance requirements and contractual obligations. 


·  Technical Expertise: Apply extensive mechanical engineering knowledge and skills as well as familiarity with and interpretation of various standards to innovate and solve complex technical challenges. 


·  Project Management: Oversee projects from inception to completion, managing timelines, resources, and budgets effectively. 


·  Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development within the team. 


Knowledge of:  



  • Relevant Australian and International standards (RISSB, AAR, EN) 

  • Interiors Standards including AS1428 and DSAPT  

  • Rollingstock maintenance  

  • Maintenance requirements analysis  

  • Root cause investigation and FRACAS  

  • Reliability and safety reviews of maintenance practices  

  • Engineering design and change management processes  

  • Problem solving procedures and methods  

  • Rollingstock design & operations  


Education & Qualifications:  



  • Mandatory - meet the requirements of a Rail Safety Worker  

  • Degree qualifications recognised by Engineers Australia or other industry body – Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering  

  • Chartered status or the ability to satisfy the requirements of chartered accreditation supporting state registration requirements (currently Victoria, Queensland) 


In this role you will have:  



  • Proven Mechanical Design experience as a leader gained within the rail, aerospace, defence or similar heavy industry environment is desired  

  • Experience in investigating failures  

  • An analytical approach to root cause, cost benefit, safety and risk  

  • 5+ years relevant experience in rollingstock design or equivalent  

  • 3D CAD system experience  

  • Systems Engineering experience  

  • Safety Assurance experience
