Overview:

Liquip International - part of OPW, is a global leader in fluid handling, metering, filtration and control solutions for the petro-chemical industry. This Mechanical Engineer role represents our commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing, testing and New Product Development.

 

The Mechanical Engineer will work to improve production efficiency and provide innovative solutions to manufacturing problems. The primary way in which this will be achieved is through the assessment, design and improvement of production test jigs, with a view towards automation (where practical). This will require working closely with Production personnel to understand where maximum benefit can be had and how best to utilise the resources that are available.

 

Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will take responsibility for all necessary product development testing. This will involve planning, performing and documenting type tests where required for the development of new products. This development testing will form part of ongoing support for New Product Development (NPD). When required the Mechanical Engineer will also take an active role in NPD, contributing to mechanical aspects of the product design.

 

This role would be well suited to a flexible and innovative engineer that is keen to apply good design principles and see the benefits of their work. It is an opportunity to work with a group of experienced engineers on a wide range of products and technologies.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Test jig development, improvement and automation (including mechanical and electrical test jigs)
  • Improving assembly jigs and tooling to increase productivity
  • Responsible for product development testing (i.e. type testing of new products)
  • Reporting on test results and corrective actions as needed
  • Support production staff and resolve production issues
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to ensure effective solutions are applied
  • Support Engineering team with NPD as needed
  • Assessing and implementing Minor Design Changes (MDC) as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering Degree
  • 5 or more years experience in similar industry
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills required in order to facilitate effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Clear written communication skills required for the generation of technical documentation and test reports
  • Experience with a 3D modelling package (ideally Solidworks)
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn

 

 

Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities:

  • Experience in a varied manufacturing environment (e.g. castings, fabrication/welding, mechanical and/or electrical assembly and testing)
  • High focus on continuous improvement and production/testing efficiency
  • Hands-on practical ability beneficial
  • Experience with pneumatic circuits would be highly regarded
  • Automation experience (e.g. PLC and/or microcontroller) would also be highly regarded
  • The ability to work as part of a team and be flexible to manage competing priorities
  • Good at thinking outside the box and have an aptitude for innovation
  • Self-directed, and able to work independently to achieve allocated goals
