Mechanical (Marine) Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and client focussed Mechanical (Marine) Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary Engineering Consulting team, delivering a pipeline of maritime design sustainment projects to Prime Contractors for the Defence sector.

This role is newly created and full time, based in Melbourne, Cairns or Adelaide, for someone who wants to join a small to medium (SME), growing consultancy at a formative time.

About the Opportunity

Undertake Mechanical (Marine) Design Activities related to Ship Concept, Principle and Detailed Design in the following platform systems areas:

a) Main and Auxiliary Propulsion Units and Related Systems

b) Fluid systems;

c) HVAC; and

d) Auxiliary Systems

  • Undertake studies and analyses using pipe flow simulation software
  • Performing engineering investigations and developing documentation such as proposals, reports and specifications.
  • Supporting Client and Business Development initiatives, working towards achieving agreed utilisation targets
  • Mentoring and developing junior staff

About you

  • Mechanical Engineering Qualifications and experience relevant to the role (Graduate to mid range level is ideal), along with a minimum of 3+ years experience
  • Proven ability to interpret and produce well presented technical drawings, reports; applying an eye for detail
  • Demonstrated experience in a Defence Maritime environment, preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work directly with Clients and likewise collaborate with colleagues
  • An un-compromising drive to understand client needs, provide solutions and deliver to high levels of quality along with a track record of doing so
  • A commercial mindset
  • A thirst for knowledge, ongoing learning and the self motivation to put this into practise
  • Be an Australian citizen who holds, or is eligible to hold, an NV1 security clearance or higher is essential

Highly Desirable

  • Defence or Commercial Maritime sector experience
  • Status as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CEng) or eligibility to work towards attaining Chartered Status
  • Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status
  • Exposure to a consulting work environment

Travel for ship inspections will become part of the role.
