Location: Broadmeadow, Newcastle NSW
Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Work Schedule: 9-day fortnight, with every second Friday off
Shift Hours: Monday to Thursday 5\:30am – 2\:30pm, Fridays 5\:30am – 1\:30pm (on working Fridays)


The Opportunity
UGL’s Manufacturing & Maintenance division in Broadmeadow is seeking skilled Mechanical Fitters with airbrake experience to join our Component Solutions team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the day-to-day operations of the airbrake workshop, ensuring smooth production flow and assisting the broader team when needed.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Oversee daily workshop activities and maintain operational efficiency.

  • Lead morning pre-start meetings.

  • Track and manage the flow of parts, cores, and consumables.

  • Delegate tasks to the trades team and ensure completion.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop.

  • Monitor and manage the calibration of all necessary equipment.

  • Ensure all relevant quality documentation is up to date.

  • Track production progress and weekly schedules.

  • Provide technical support across the workshop as needed.

  • Coordinate reactive maintenance on equipment when required.


About You:
To be successful in this role, you should have:



  • A Mechanical Trade qualification and hands-on experience in a related field.

  • (Desirable) HRWL Forklift license and First Aid certification.

  • (Desirable) Pneumatic or Hydraulic experience and Airbrake component experience.

  • A solid understanding of production, manufacturing, or process environments.

  • The ability to implement new ideas and contribute to performance improvements.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build proactive relationships with staff and key stakeholders.
