Job Description

Position Overview:

Responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems and components. This position demands a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment while ensuring the safety and operational readiness of naval vessels.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine and emergency maintenance on hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and associated piping. Repair or replace defective hydraulic components, as necessary.
  • Installation: Install and set up new hydraulic systems, components, and equipment aboard naval vessels in compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements.
  • System Testing: Conduct testing and calibration of hydraulic systems to ensure proper functionality, performance, and compliance with naval standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hydraulic system malfunctions using diagnostic tools, schematics, and manuals to identify issues and determine the best course of action for repair.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, installations, and maintenance activities, and provide reports as required by the management or client.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, industry standards, and Defence regulations when performing maintenance and repairs. Ensure all work is completed to high safety standards and complies with operational regulations and procedures.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with technical staff, and naval personnel to ensure smooth operations of all hydraulic systems. Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with new technologies, hydraulic systems, and industry best practices. Recommend improvements to enhance performance, efficiency, and safety.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Education: Completion of a formal apprenticeship or trade certification in mechanical, hydraulic, or a related field is required. Relevant technical qualifications or Defence training are highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Preferred to have experience working with hydraulic systems, preferably in a naval, maritime, or industrial setting.
    • Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems aboard vessels or large machinery.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of hydraulic principles, systems, and components.
    • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and test equipment for hydraulic systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure in a time-sensitive environment.
    • Strong communication skills to interact with team members, officers, and other departments.
  • Certifications:
    • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, Fire Safety, working at heights, confined space) are preferred.
    • Certification in hydraulic fitting or related areas may be advantageous.
    • Must have White card
    • Ability to achieve a police clearance and Defence passes
